Police search for an officer after students allegedly attacked an examination monitoring team at Nyabisase Mixed Secondary School.
A police officer is missing after students allegedly attacked KCSE investigators at Nyabisase Mixed Secondary School. Police have launched efforts to trace the officer, who reportedly suffered a serious assault during the confrontation.
The incident occurred on Thursday, November 5, at around 10am during an inquiry into suspected examination malpractice. The visiting team included officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and National Intelligence Service.
A KNEC official invigilating examinations at the school had alerted authorities to alleged irregularities. Investigators then visited the institution to examine those concerns.

On arrival, the team reportedly found a laptop hidden behind the school’s administration offices. The discovery raised further concerns about possible malpractice, prompting the officials to request assistance from DCI detectives in Nyamache.
However, students allegedly became rowdy before the additional detectives arrived and turned against the examination monitoring team. They reportedly attacked police officers and KNEC officials, disrupting the exercise as the confrontation escalated.
During the violence, students also allegedly seized a vehicle belonging to one of the police officers. They reportedly caused extensive damage and stole personal belongings from inside.
Nyamache detectives have since visited the scene as police continue searching for their missing colleague. Investigations also cover the alleged examination malpractice, attacks on officials and destruction of property.
Meanwhile, KNEC has deployed monitoring teams across examination centres to curb cheating and unauthorised access to examination materials.
