Police have launched investigations into the Kiambu officer death after finding his body near Kinale Forest on Tuesday. The officer lay about 800 metres from his workstation at Soko Mjinga Police Station.

He reportedly arrived for duty at about 6:00 a.m., before leaving the station around 11:40 a.m. A search later ended with the discovery of his body at the forest’s edge.

His assigned AK-47 rifle lay beside him. Preliminary observations recorded in a police report identified two gunshot wounds: an entry wound on the left chest and an exit wound at the back.

Investigators also recovered four spent cartridges about five metres from the body. The recovered items included a loaded AK-47 rifle and a round of ammunition removed from its chamber.

The Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer took the firearm for ballistic examination. Detectives will use the findings to help establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Meanwhile, investigators processed the body at the scene before transferring it to Uphome Funeral Mortuary. It remains there pending a postmortem examination, which will form part of the inquiry.

Police have also opened an inquest file to support further investigations. Detectives expect to draw on ballistic findings, postmortem results and other forensic evidence to establish what happened.
