Speaking during the ceremony in Bondo on October 7, 2026, Mama Ida said Oburu was unwell and currently receiving treatment. She also asked Kenyans to continue praying for the veteran politician’s recovery.
Oburu Oginga Misses Raila Mausoleum Ceremony
Oburu was expected to attend the ceremony marking the handover and dedication of Raila Odinga’s mausoleum. However, his health condition prevented him from joining other family members and dignitaries at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi.
Mama Ida assured those gathered that Oburu was recovering from his illness. His son, Jaoko Oburu, and Raila Odinga Junior also conveyed his apologies and greetings to guests attending the event.

Mama Ida appealed to Kenyans to keep Oburu in their prayers as he continues his recovery. She expressed hope that the Siaya Senator would regain enough strength to join the public during Raila’s first death anniversary on October 15.
Her remarks offered an update following growing public concern over Oburu’s absence. The family has maintained that he is alive and recovering.

The clarification came a day after Oburu’s office dismissed social media reports claiming that the senator had died. The family described the reports as false and reassured the public that Oburu was steadily recovering.
