ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has dismissed reports claiming Siaya Senator Dr Oburu Oginga has died. Wanga confirmed that the veteran politician is recovering steadily and remains in high spirits. She shared the update on Tuesday evening, October 6, 2026, after visiting him personally.
Wanga Reassures Kenyans
Wanga urged Kenyans to ignore false reports circulating across social media platforms. She said she personally visited Dr Oburu and found him in good spirits.
The ODM chairperson also condemned bloggers spreading what she described as baseless information. Consequently, her statement sought to reassure the senator’s supporters and constituents.
Senator Undergoing Medical Checks
Dr Oburu, 83, is currently resting after undergoing routine medical checks at Nairobi Hospital. His family and secretariat described the hospital visit as a standard follow-up.
The senator recently returned to Kenya after spending three weeks in the United Kingdom. He arrived back in the country on September 25, 2026. During his UK trip, he underwent routine health evaluations.
Family Condemns False Reports
Dr Oburu’s son, Jaoko Oburu Odinga, also condemned the circulating death reports. He accused rogue internet users of creating unnecessary anxiety among the family.
The reports also caused concern among friends and the senator’s constituents. Meanwhile, ODM leaders have urged the public to trust official communication channels.

Leaders Send Good Wishes
The party has also asked the public to respect Dr Oburu’s privacy. Officials want the senator to receive adequate time to recover fully.
Dr Oburu will eventually resume his legislative and public responsibilities. The veteran politician remains an influential figure within Kenya’s political landscape.
He is also the elder brother of opposition leader Raila Odinga. For now, leaders across the political divide continue sending messages of goodwill.
The latest update therefore seeks to end speculation surrounding the senator’s health.
