Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has announced his move from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Lomorukai made the announcement on Thursday, September 24, 2026, during political engagements in Lodwar. The move places the Turkana governor within the ruling party as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Lomorukai Explains UDA Move
Lomorukai said his decision to join UDA was driven by his desire to work more closely with the national government. He linked the move to efforts to accelerate development projects across Turkana County.
The governor also indicated that he was ready to participate in UDA’s internal nomination process ahead of the next election.
Recent reporting had already linked Lomorukai to UDA after he visited the party’s headquarters in Nairobi earlier this month.
UDA Expands Presence in Turkana
The development comes as UDA strengthens its grassroots activities in different parts of Kenya. UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar was among senior party officials involved in political activities surrounding Lomorukai’s move.
The party has also opened a new office in Turkana as it seeks to expand its membership and grassroots network. Lomorukai subsequently urged his supporters to register as UDA members.

Lomorukai’s defection changes the party landscape in Turkana ahead of the 2027 elections. The governor was elected on an ODM ticket in the 2022 General Election. Current political reporting continues to identify him as Turkana’s sitting governor while noting his shift towards UDA.
