Homa Bay Governor and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson Gladys Wanga visited party leader and Siaya Senator Dr Oburu Oginga at his Nairobi residence on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
Following the visit, Wanga said she was pleased to find the veteran politician strong and in high spirits as he continued recovering.
“Catching up with ODM party leader Oburu Oginga earlier today. Happy to see him strong and in very high spirits,” Wanga said.
Her update offered reassurance to ODM supporters following weeks of public interest in the senator’s health.
Wanga and Oburu Catch Up
During the visit, Wanga and Oburu reportedly spent time together catching up and reading local newspapers. The meeting formed part of a series of visits by political leaders and members of the Odinga family as the senator recuperates at home.
Kibra parliamentary aspirant Raila Odinga Junior also visited Oburu earlier in the week. Kisii Governor Simba Arati had visited him following his discharge from hospital.
Oburu Oginga’s Recovery After Hospital Discharge
Oburu was discharged from Nairobi Hospital on October 19, 2026, after a period of treatment. His hospitalisation had prompted public speculation about his health and absence from political events.
The 83-year-old senator subsequently said his doctors had directed him to observe strict bed rest and avoid public appearances while recovering from an undisclosed medical condition.
He also reassured ODM members that the party’s leadership structures remained active despite his temporary absence from public engagements. Neither Oburu’s family nor the party has publicly disclosed detailed medical information about his condition.

ODM Leadership Remains Active
Oburu took over the ODM leadership following the death of his younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, in October 2025.
His recovery comes as the party continues navigating its leadership transition and preparing for the 2027 General Election.
Despite reducing his public engagements, Oburu has maintained that ODM’s operations would continue during his recovery.
Wanga’s latest visit and update provide a fresh account of his condition. Supporters will now be looking for further official communication on his progress and eventual return to public duties.
