Nairobi County Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has challenged Kevin Bahati and Diana Marua’s plan to charge guests KSh 1 million each for their upcoming wedding.
Mosiria says he will attend the celebrity couple’s November 6, 2026 ceremony in his official capacity rather than pay the proposed fee. He also plans to assess the event’s compliance with environmental regulations, according to his public remarks.
The controversy has sparked debate online, with Kenyans questioning the couple’s decision to attach such a high price to their exclusive celebration.
Mosiria Says He Will Attend on Official Duty
In a statement shared on social media, Mosiria said he would focus on environmental compliance, including noise control and waste management. He rejected the idea of paying for entry to carry out his official responsibilities.
“Bahati, mimi sitalipa milioni moja. Nitakuja kuangalia ya kwamba you are environmentally compliant,” Mosiria stated.
The chief officer’s remarks have placed the spotlight on the county’s responsibility to enforce environmental rules, even during high-profile private events. However, any inspection would depend on the applicable regulations and the county’s established procedures.
‘Will Guests Get Shares in the Marriage?’
Mosiria also questioned why the couple would charge guests such a substantial amount to attend their wedding. He sarcastically suggested that people paying KSh 1 million might expect a stake in the marriage.
“Kwani hii harusi, Bahati ni nini hiyo iko so special yenye lazima alipie millioni moja? Ama wakati unaoa Diana mwenye atalipa millioni moja atakuwa na shares?” he asked.
He further criticised the plan against the backdrop of Kenya’s economic pressures, arguing that many citizens already struggle with the cost of living.
“Wakenya hawana pesa. Wakenya wanafinywa na uchumi na pia Baha anawafinya huku kando na harusi,” Mosiria added.
The official also suggested that a larger public venue, such as Nyayo National Stadium, could allow more fans to celebrate with the couple.
Bahati and Diana’s Wedding Sparks Debate
The couple’s planned ceremony marks a milestone in their relationship, which has remained in the public eye through social media updates and entertainment projects.
Their reported plan to limit attendance to 100 guests, with each paying KSh 1 million, has divided online opinion. Some critics question the affordability of the arrangement, while others see it as an exclusive celebrity experience.
With the wedding scheduled for November 6, attention now centres on the couple’s plans and Mosiria’s comments about environmental compliance. It remains unclear whether the proposed ticketing arrangement will change before the ceremony.
