Mike Sonko and Geoffrey Mosiria have renewed their political partnership ahead of 2027.
Geoffrey Mosiria says Mike Sonko has endorsed his 2027 Nairobi campaign and urged him to prioritise two hospital projects.
The Geoffrey Mosiria governor bid has drawn backing from former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, the aspirant announced. Mosiria plans to challenge Governor Johnson Sakaja in 2027 through Sonko’s National Economic Development Party (NEDP).
On October 26, the former county chief officer said Sonko had officially endorsed his campaign. He also announced plans for the pair to take their policy agenda to Nairobi residents.
The announcement follows social media exchanges that have highlighted their renewed political relationship. However, their partnership now extends beyond playful online appearances to campaign plans and healthcare priorities.
Mosiria governor bid puts hospital projects in focus
Mosiria said Sonko had asked him to prioritise the long-awaited Pumwani Maternity Hospital project if elected. He also identified the expansion of Mutuini Hospital as a priority proposed by the former governor.
Those commitments place elements of Sonko’s unfinished development agenda within Mosiria’s pitch for City Hall. Sonko left office following his removal in 2020, and the hospital pledges link their renewed partnership to specific projects.
Meanwhile, Mosiria has been taking his gubernatorial ambitions to residents, drawing on his county government experience. His work has spanned Nairobi’s health, environment and customer service departments.
He has also maintained a visible social media presence, building recognition beyond county government offices.
Renewed partnership raises NEDP’s Nairobi profile
The pair’s online exchanges have included a robot dance, adding a light-hearted element to their public association. Alongside those appearances, Mosiria’s endorsement announcement gives their relationship a clearer electoral direction ahead of 2027.
For Sonko, the partnership offers a route to retain influence in Nairobi politics while promoting NEDP. Mosiria, meanwhile, is seeking to build his political future under the party’s banner.
Sonko continues to face legal challenges and public scrutiny, but he remains active in public affairs. His backing could also give Mosiria access to an established political network as the campaign develops.
However, the extent of NEDP’s eventual alliances remains unclear as aspirants consider their political platforms. Mosiria’s stated hospital priorities offer an early indication of the proposals he intends to present to voters.
