Raila Odinga Junior shared a photograph with his uncle eight days after the ODM leader left hospital.

Kibra parliamentary aspirant Raila Odinga Junior visited his uncle, ODM leader Oburu Odinga, during his home recovery in Nairobi. The October 27 visit came eight days after the Siaya Senator left Nairobi Hospital.

Junior shared a photograph of the pair on social media with the message, “God is good.” However, he gave no details about Oburu’s condition or when he might resume his political schedule.

Oburu home recovery continues after hospital discharge

Oburu entered hospital on October 4 and left on October 19. He continues to recover at home under medical supervision, with doctors advising rest before normal public engagements.

The senator turned 83 on October 15 while receiving treatment. His hospital stay also coincided with preparations for the first anniversary of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s death.

Raila, Oburu’s younger brother, died on October 15, 2025. In his birthday message, Oburu reflected on their close personal and political relationship, saying death could not break their bond.

He also addressed speculation about his health, saying he was recovering and criticising unverified reports about his condition. Oburu maintained that illness remained a private matter and urged people not to turn his absence into rumours.

Meanwhile, he has not announced a date for returning to regular public duties.

Arati visited earlier as ODM reassured supporters

Junior’s visit followed an October 22 meeting between Oburu and ODM deputy leader Simba Arati at the same residence. The Kisii governor’s visit was the first publicly reported meeting with a senior party official after Oburu’s discharge.

ODM shared photographs of the two leaders seated together, alongside a message affirming the party’s strength. Arati has also represented Oburu at public events, including memorial activities honouring Raila.

Oburu took over ODM’s leadership following his brother’s death. His recovery therefore comes as the party manages that transition and prepares for the 2027 General Election.

Junior pursues Kibra parliamentary bid

Alongside the family visit, Junior continues to draw attention for his interest in the Kibra parliamentary seat. The constituency has longstanding links to his late father’s political influence and ODM’s Nairobi support base.

However, his bid still faces the party’s nomination process and competition from other aspirants. For now, his latest social media post offered a family update rather than further information about Oburu’s health.
