DCI Tracks Stolen Phones After Westlands Robbery

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has launched a full-scale manhunt following a daring armed robbery at Chaiiwali Restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Westlands, Nairobi. Specifically, four armed suspects riding on two motorcycles executed the raid on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at approximately 10:35 PM. Furthermore, the entire operation lasted less than 30 seconds.

How the Robbery Unfolded

The attack was swift and calculated. Specifically, two suspects entered the restaurant posing as regular customers before drawing pistols and moving table to table robbing patrons.

Furthermore, the gang overpowered a security guard and fired two warning shots into the air before fleeing toward the Parklands area. Consequently, no fatalities or injuries were reported.


What Was Stolen

The gang made off with a specific haul. Specifically, they stole at least seven mobile phones, including six iPhones and one Samsung, alongside one HP laptop.

The Investigation So Far

DCI detectives are pursuing multiple forensic and digital leads simultaneously. Specifically, detectives from the DCI’s Imaging and Acoustic Section are reviewing widely shared CCTV footage to profile and identify the suspects.

Furthermore, crime scene investigators recovered a spent 9mm cartridge at the premises for forensic ballistic mapping. Additionally, and most significantly, digital intelligence teams have already tracked the signals of the stolen mobile devices to the Kariobangi area. Therefore, arrests may be imminent.
