Ex-Lugari MP Enoch Kibunguchy Dies at 72

Former Lugari MP Enoch Kibunguchy passed away at Eldoret Hospital after a prolonged illness. Moreover, his death marked the end of a distinguished career in politics and medicine.

Political Career and Leadership
Kibunguchy succeeded Cyrus Jirongo as Lugari MP in 2003. Additionally, he later served as Likuyani MP for two consecutive terms between 2013 and 2022.

Party Affiliations Over the YearsThroughout his career, Kibunguchy worked with several political parties. Consequently, he joined FORD-Kenya, ODM, and most recently DAP-K in 2025.

Service Beyond Politics
Besides politics, Kibunguchy served as Assistant Director of Medical Services at the Ministry of Health. Furthermore, he held senior roles at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and Coast General Hospital.

Kibunguchy’s death followed Cyrus Jirongo’s tragic accident in Naivasha two weeks earlier. Jirongo, a former KANU bigwig, served Lugari Constituency between 1997 and 2002.

Both leaders left lasting legacies in Lugari politics. Ultimately, Kibunguchy’s influence in education and healthcare remains deeply felt across Kakamega County.
