Driver Reveals Circumstances of the Crash
The driver of the 65-seater bus explained the events that led to the early morning collision. He stated that former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo rammed into the bus while overtaking vehicles stuck in traffic.
Jirongo’s Vehicle Overtakes in Opposite Lane
According to the 52-year-old driver, Jirongo left a petrol station and encountered heavy traffic on the highway. Consequently, Jirongo overlapped into the opposite lane, which was used by vehicles heading towards Nakuru.

The driver, with eight years of service, confirmed his bus collided with Jirongo’s Mercedes. He explained that Jirongo ignored oncoming traffic and forced his way into the bus’s lane.

The driver emphasized that the accident was avoidable but escape options were limited. Moreover, he noted that giving way could have caused a more fatal crash.

At the time of the accident, Jirongo was alone in his Mercedes. Meanwhile, the bus carried 65 passengers and was heading to Busia from Nairobi.

The driver tried to save Jirongo but risked rolling over. Therefore, he stopped and allowed the Mercedes to ram into the bus.

Images shared online showed Jirongo’s car severely damaged, with a broken windscreen and deflated tyres. The extent of the damage highlighted the severity of the collision.
