Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued Ahead of New Year

Residents Urged to Prepare
Kenya Meteorological Department has urged residents to brace for heavy rainfall and possible flooding before the new year. Moreover, the advisory highlights increased risks in several regions, stressing the need for vigilance.

Forecast Dates and Intensity
The department projects intensified rainfall on December 28 and December 30. Furthermore, rainfall likelihood ranges between 33 and 66 percent, classified as moderate to heavy.

Counties Likely to Be Affected
Counties expected to experience heavy rainfall include Nairobi, Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii, Narok, Kajiado, Makueni, and Machakos. Additionally, Kericho, Bomet, Kitui South, Taita-Taveta, and Kwale will also be affected.

Expected Rainfall Levels
Rainfall exceeding 20mm in 24 hours is forecasted in southeastern lowlands on December 27. Consequently, intensity may rise to 30mm/24hrs in western and coastal regions by December 28 and 29.

Rainfall Subsiding After December 30
The department expects rainfall intensity to gradually reduce after December 30. Therefore, conditions may stabilize in most affected areas.

Hot and Dry Conditions Elsewhere
Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River counties will experience showers and hot conditions. Maximum temperatures may reach 34°C, while minimums may drop to 23°C.

Sunny Intervals in Northern Counties
Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana, and Samburu will experience sunny intervals. However, occasional rainfall may still occur in southern regions.

Strong Winds Expected
Marsabit County will face strong southeasterly winds of 25 knots in the next five days. Therefore, residents should remain cautious of wind-related hazards.

The heavy rainfall alert emphasizes preparedness and caution. Ultimately, Kenyans are advised to stay vigilant as weather conditions vary across regions.
