Mama Rachel Hospital Nears Completion in Nairobi
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja announced that Mama Rachel Hospital is 90 percent complete. Consequently, residents will soon access improved healthcare services.
The update appeared in the county newsletter on Monday, December 22, 2025, highlighting progress and readiness for full operations.
Renaming Honors First Lady and Community Health
Last year, Sakaja renamed Mutuini Hospital to Mama Rachel Hospital to recognize First Lady Rachel Ruto’s efforts in women’s health and empowerment.
This renaming emphasizes the government’s commitment to maternal care and community wellness programs.
Upgraded Facilities and Expanded Capacity
The hospital is being upgraded to a Level 5 specialist facility, offering advanced maternal, neonatal, surgical, and diagnostic services.
Additionally, the three-storey building will house 400 beds to serve Nairobi’s growing population. It will include theatres, maternity and newborn units, ICU and HDU wards, a renal unit, and a live surgery suite.
Advanced Services and Government Support
Mama Rachel Hospital will feature modern radiology, including CT scans, X-rays, and ultrasounds, alongside a fully equipped laboratory.
Two human milk banks will strengthen neonatal care. Funding comes from President William Ruto, who pledged KSh 230 million, and the Nairobi County Assembly, which allocated KSh 238 million for expansion.
Governor Sakaja assured that these resources will guarantee specialized, accessible, and quality healthcare for Nairobi residents.
