Mob Attack Leads to Recovery of Stolen Rifle in Kiambu
Police in Kiambu County recovered a stolen firearm after an armed suspect was attacked by members of the public in Magana, Thika East. The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the incident on Friday and noted that officers acted quickly to secure the weapon.
Officers Respond Swiftly to Local Reports
According to the NPS, officers at Munyu Police Station reacted immediately after local administrators reported a suspicious man. When the officers arrived, they found the suspect injured on the ground after residents confronted him. Additionally, police recovered a G3 rifle, two magazines, 68 rounds of ammunition, several blank rounds, a penknife, and other items.
Recovered Rifle Linked to Earlier Police Weapon Theft
Further investigations showed that the rifle matched one stolen earlier within the sub-county. As a result, detectives secured the weapon and stored it safely in police custody. Moreover, forensic teams will examine the rifle to trace its movement and confirm any criminal use. They will also work to identify anyone else involved in the theft.
Police Call for Continued Public Cooperation
As inquiries progress, investigators aim to determine how the suspect obtained the weapon. They also want to know whether he belongs to a wider criminal network. Consequently, authorities urged residents to report suspicious behavior without delay. According to the NPS, timely information helps officers prevent crime and respond faster.
Furthermore, police praised the community for acting quickly and assisting officers at the scene. They stressed that strong cooperation between residents and law enforcement improves public safety and reduces armed crime in the region.
