Police in Mbooni East, Makueni County, are investigating a tragic incident in which a man fatally stabbed his wife before taking his own life in the Kyamukwa area of Kalawa. Mbooni East Police Commander Iphrahim Karani confirmed the deaths and stated that the couple had been experiencing ongoing domestic disputes.
Police Confirm Ongoing Domestic Conflict
According to Commander Karani, the couple’s disagreements had escalated in recent weeks. He emphasized that early reporting and peaceful conflict-resolution mechanisms could help prevent such tragedies. Moreover, he urged families facing disputes to seek support from community elders, counsellors, or law enforcement before situations worsen.
Bodies Transferred to Kalawa Hospital Mortuary
Following the incident, police officers arrived at the scene and documented the crime. They then moved both bodies to the Kalawa Hospital mortuary. Additionally, investigators have launched an inquiry to determine the events that led to the violent confrontation and subsequent suicide. Authorities also plan to speak to neighbours and relatives to gather more information about the couple’s relationship and history of conflict.
Incident Occurs During 16 Days of Activism
This tragedy comes at a critical time, as Kenya is currently observing the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign aimed at raising awareness and promoting prevention efforts. Consequently, the incident has renewed calls for stronger community interventions and more accessible mental health and counselling services.
Leaders Urge Communities to Report Violence Early
Local leaders and gender advocates now urge the public to report signs of domestic violence immediately. They argue that early intervention can save lives and prevent families from experiencing irreversible loss. Furthermore, they stress that domestic disputes should never be allowed to escalate into violence.
Authorities continue to investigate the case as communities reflect on the urgent need to address gender-based violence and strengthen support systems for affected families.
