Nairobi–Nyahururu Railway Reopens After 46 Years
On June 2, 2026, Kenya marked a major transport milestone with the official return of the Nairobi–Gilgil–Ol Kalou–Nyahururu railway line. Consequently, passenger services resumed after a 46-year suspension.
The revived route, branded as the Hustler Express and Nyahururu Safari Train, completed its maiden journey amid excitement from residents and travelers.

The new service offers affordable travel options for commuters and tourists. Economy-class tickets from Nairobi to Nyahururu cost KSh 600.
Additionally, VIP and first-class tickets range up to KSh 1,300 depending on the travel segment. Consequently, travelers can choose services that match their budgets and preferences.
Officials believe the pricing structure will encourage more people to use rail transport.

Freight Operations Already Deliver Results
Freight services commenced before the official passenger launch. Consequently, the railway transported 396 tonnes of government-subsidized fertilizer to National Cereals and Produce Board depots.
