President Ruto Renames Shauri Moyo Estate in Honor of Johana Ng’eno

During the burial of the late Johana Ng’eno, the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr, a major tribute was announced.
At the ceremony, William Ruto directed that Shauri Moyo Housing Estate in Nairobi be renamed Johana Ng’eno Boma Yangu Housing Estate.

According to the President, the decision aims to honor Ng’eno’s dedication to housing reforms. Furthermore, the move recognizes his consistent efforts to expand affordable housing opportunities across Kenya.

Recognizing Ng’eno’s Contributions

Ng’eno served as Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning, and Public Works. In this role, he actively supported national housing reforms.

Moreover, President Ruto noted that Ng’eno played a critical role in advancing the government’s Affordable Housing agenda. Even when political opposition intensified, he continued to champion the initiative.

As a result, Ng’eno became one of the most vocal defenders of the housing program in Parliament. Consequently, the government now views the renaming as a fitting tribute to his legacy.

Estate Details and Government Directive

The renamed estate, Shauri Moyo Housing Estate, currently houses about 4,500 residents. Therefore, the tribute will affect thousands of Nairobi residents.

Additionally, President Ruto instructed the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development to formalize the name change.

The announcement came during Ng’eno’s burial on Friday, March 6, 2026. The ceremony took place in Mogondo village within Narok County, where leaders gathered to pay their final respects.Ruto

Additional Development Support for Emurua Dikirr

Besides the renaming announcement, the President also pledged major development support for the constituency.

First, he promised KSh 20 million to help acquire land for community development. Furthermore, he pledged KSh 750 million to construct a university and student hostels in Emurua Dikirr.

According to the President, the project will expand higher education opportunities in the region. At the same time, it will create jobs and stimulate local economic growth.

Preserving a Lasting Legacy

Ultimately, renaming the estate ensures Ng’eno’s contributions remain visible to future generations. Indeed, thousands of residents will live in a community bearing his name.
