UDA Postpones Grassroots Polls After Ng’eno’s Tragic Death

Mourning Period Prioritized

On Monday, March 2, 2026, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Elections Board (NEB) announced changes to its grassroots election schedule.
The adjustment comes after the tragic death of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno.

NEB Chairman Anthony Mwaura confirmed the postponement in an official notice. He explained that all elections initially slated for March 7, 2026, would be deferred.
Furthermore, the party acted in solidarity with Ng’eno’s family and supporters. Party officials described him as a distinguished and committed leader within UDA.

Ng’eno died on February 28, 2026, in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, which also claimed five other lives. Consequently, the party prioritized mourning before resuming political activities.

Revised UDA Grassroots Election Timeline

Following consultations, UDA released a revised schedule for the repeat phases.

  • Repeat Phase III is now set for Saturday, March 14, 2026. This phase will cover 19 counties across Mt. Kenya, Rift Valley, and Western regions. Key counties include Meru, Uasin Gishu, and Nakuru.
  • Repeat Phase II, meanwhile, will take place on Thursday, April 9, 2026, affecting 23 counties across Coastal, Eastern, Northern, and Western regions.
Therefore, the party aims to maintain electoral momentum while respecting the mourning period.Grassroots

Logistics and Participation Guidelines

UDA clarified that the repeat elections follow internal reviews of the earlier 2026 polls. However, previously registered aspirants do not need to re-register.

Additionally, the party will continue using its Advanced Electronic Voting System, ensuring both transparency and efficiency.
Moreover, aspirants must confirm polling centers through the official UDA online portal, and the party urged candidates to monitor updates closely.

Political Significance

The postponement highlights UDA’s effort to balance empathy with organizational continuity. Simultaneously, the revised timeline ensures seamless progression in party structures.
Ultimately, UDA leaders reaffirmed their commitment to credible grassroots elections and called for unity during this period of national mourning.
