Gachagua Intensifies Attacks on Ruto, Rejects State of the Nation Address
Criticism Intensifies in Mbeere North
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his attacks on President William Ruto. He dismissed the State of the Nation address as “a useless speech devoid of substance.”
Gachagua spoke on Thursday during campaigns in Mbeere North. He argued that the President focused on political theatrics instead of real progress.
Concerns Over Public Spending
The former Deputy President questioned government spending in the by-election. He said the administration was wasting resources while residents lacked basic services.
“I want to ask Ruto and Kindiki why they are wasting KSh500 million here. Mbeere has no water, electricity or proper roads. If they cared, they would use that money for development,” he said.
Speech ‘Detached From Reality’
Gachagua also criticised the address delivered in Parliament. He said it failed to reflect the daily struggles of Kenyans.
“Leo Kasongo ako Bunge kusomea watu barua refu ati awaelezee kile amefanya. Hajafanya. Ni uongo si uongo? Hakuna haja ya kumskiza,” he stated.
He added that Kenyans were promised support, yet “the little they had was taken away.”
Claims of Voter Intimidation
Additionally, Gachagua accused state operatives of attempting to influence the November 27 by-election. He alleged that voters were being pushed to support UDA candidate Leonard Muthende.
“Nimeskia Ruku akiambia watu wapigie Muthende kura, wapige picha, halafu watumiwe pesa. Hiyo ni uongo. Baada ya uchaguzi hakuna mtu atakupatia pesa,” he warned.
Mt Kenya Voters Urged to ‘Send a Message’
Gachagua urged Mt Kenya residents to use the by-election to show their dissatisfaction with President Ruto. He described Mbeere North as a key area in what he called a coming political “reckoning.”
He continued campaigning for Democratic Party (DP) candidate Newton Kariuki. During the week, he held several rallies and door-to-door engagements. He was accompanied by allies including former CS JB Muturi, MP Gitonga Mukunji, Senator John Methu and Senator Karungo wa Thangwa.
Accusations of Mismanagement
Finally, Gachagua accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of mismanaging public resources. He claimed the country was experiencing “a period marked by lawlessness,” with rising insecurity and alleged abductions.
