Uhuru Denies Political Comeback, Defends Jubilee Role
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has dismissed claims of planning a political comeback.
Speaking on May 25, 2026, during a Jubilee Party delegates meeting in Kiambu County, Kenyatta clarified his continued involvement in party affairs.
He explained that he only remains active to oversee a peaceful leadership transition within the Jubilee Party.
Consequently, he urged critics to stop interpreting his actions as attempts to re-enter active politics.
Uhuru Blames Court Battles for Delayed Exit
Kenyatta revealed that he initially planned to retire fully from party leadership after leaving State House.
However, he claimed political interference and court battles disrupted the transition process.
According to Kenyatta, internal sabotage and state-backed disputes forced him to remain at the party helm temporarily.
Therefore, he insisted that his current role remains administrative and advisory rather than political.
Additionally, he emphasized the need to stabilize Jubilee Party structures before handing leadership to younger leaders.
Former President Rejects Intimidation Claims
During the meeting, Kenyatta strongly criticized individuals demanding his silence on national matters.
He argued that retired presidents worldwide continue supporting political parties without violating constitutional rights.
Consequently, he defended his freedom to comment on governance, democracy, and political developments in Kenya.
The former Head of State also rejected suggestions that he should withdraw completely from public affairs.
Furthermore, he warned against attempts to intimidate former leaders through political pressure.

Kenyatta announced plans to strengthen Jubilee Party through a nationwide grassroots reorganization campaign.

Kenyatta also reminded members that Jubilee remains a national party rather than a regional movement.

Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i and Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta accused critics of political intimidation.
They argued that threats targeting Kenyatta’s retirement benefits distract Kenyans from economic challenges facing the country.
Additionally, Jubilee leaders linked the controversy to growing public dissatisfaction over the Finance Bill 2026 and rising fuel prices.
