Shock in Embu: Woman Assaulted After Rejecting Boda Boda Rider’s Advances

A 45-year-old woman from Kigari Village in Embu North is demanding swift justice after three men allegedly assaulted her following her rejection of a boda boda rider’s sexual advances. The victim, Janet Wawira, has spent the last three weeks confined to a wheelchair due to the severe injuries she sustained.

Wawira is recovering at Embu Level 5 Hospital, where she continues to receive treatment.

Attack Began After Rider Allegedly Diverted Route

Wawira says the incident occurred after she hired her regular boda boda rider from Kibugu Market to take her home. However, instead of heading toward Kigari, the rider allegedly diverted to Kiagoci and stopped outside his home.

According to Wawira, he demanded that she spend the night with him before he could continue the journey. When she refused and attempted to walk away, the situation escalated.

Three Men Join Attack After Victim Refuses Advances

Wawira reports that three men confronted her moments later and violently assaulted her. As a result, she suffered serious injuries that left her unable to walk.

Because she was immobilized, she spent the entire night outdoors. A passerby discovered her the following morning and alerted her family, who rushed her to hospital.

Victim Now Fears for Her Safety

As she recovers, Wawira says she fears the suspects may return to harm her again, especially since she has limited mobility and is often alone. Her family is calling for immediate police action to protect her and ensure the attackers are held accountable.

Local Leaders Condemn the Attack

Women leaders in the region have strongly condemned the assault, calling it unacceptable and deeply troubling. Activist Mary Muthoni described the incident as shocking and urged law enforcement to arrest all the suspects without delay.
