Aroko Breaks Silence on Kaluma Attack, Denies Hiring Goons

Kasipul by-election runners-up Philip Aroko has spoken out after the chaotic incident that left Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma injured.

Aroko said Kaluma sparked the confrontation when residents accused him of bribing voters. He denied hiring any group to assault the lawmaker and insisted he only tried to protect him.

He explained that he met Kaluma at Agoro Sare High School. The legislator was at the polling station even though he was not registered to vote there. Soon after, a group of angry youths stormed the area and confronted the MP over the bribery allegations.

“I was moving around as a candidate. When I arrived, I found him with an MCA from Kabondo Kasipul,” Aroko said. “People claimed money was being shared. I greeted him and asked why he was there.”

He said he stepped in when the crowd surged toward the MP but the situation escalated too fast.

“Those were not my people who hit him. The crowd overwhelmed me, and I was also struck,” he stated.

The clash happened on November 27 during the Kasipul by-election. Kaluma was at the station as ODM’s agent for candidate Boyd Were. He later accused Aroko of planning the attack and claimed the mob stole his bodyguard’s gun before it was recovered.
