Tragedy at AIC Kapsabet School for the Deaf Leaves One Student Dead
A tragic accident at AIC Kapsabet School for the Deaf in Nandi County has left one student dead and ten others injured. The incident occurred on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Authorities confirmed the students were involved in a sudden structural collapse within the school compound. Consequently, the accident triggered a large emergency response involving teachers, residents, and rescue teams. The tragedy has also raised concerns about infrastructure safety in schools.
Students Gathered to Watch Presidential Motorcade
Reports indicate that eleven students climbed onto a septic tank slab. They reportedly wanted to watch the passing motorcade of William Ruto.
The students stood on top of an aging concrete slab covering the septic tank. However, the structure could not support their combined weight. As a result, the old slab suddenly collapsed. The students then fell into the pit below.
The unexpected collapse caused panic across the school compound. Teachers quickly raised the alarm as the rescue operation began.
Rescue Operation Launched Immediately
Teachers, local residents, and police officers responded quickly. Emergency teams worked together to rescue the trapped students.
County disaster response units also joined the operation. Rescuers carefully retrieved the victims from the septic pit.
Medical teams then rushed the injured students to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital. Unfortunately, one pupil died upon arrival at the hospital. Meanwhile, ten other students received medical treatment.
Doctors confirmed that eight of them remain in stable condition. However, two students continue receiving treatment in critical care. Authorities continue monitoring their recovery closely.
