Khalwale Loses Senate Majority Whip Seat as UDA Enforces Discipline
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has lost his Senate Majority Whip seat after a decisive move by the UDA party. Senate Speaker Amason Kingi announced the change on Tuesday after receiving and verifying the party’s correspondence.
Kingi confirmed that UDA members met, discussed the matter, and resolved to remove Khalwale under Standing Order 225. He then declared Bungoma Senator David Wakoli Wafula the new Majority Whip, and the change took effect immediately.
Khalwale watched the announcement in silence. His stern look suggested he already understood what was coming.
Why UDA Moved Quickly
Khalwale had clashed with senior UDA figures for weeks. The tension grew after he campaigned with opposition leaders, including Governor George Natembeya and DAP-K party boss Eugene Wamalwa, in support of Seth Panyako during the Malava by-election.
However, Panyako lost the race to UDA’s David Ndakwa, and the party hardened its stance.
Cherargei Hints at More Punishments
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei repeatedly warned that the party would discipline Khalwale for defiance. On Tuesday, he said that UDA and ODM rebels who backed rival candidates will now lose their parliamentary roles as part of a broader clean-up.
“We start removing them from parliamentary leadership tomorrow,” Cherargei warned, signaling a sweeping purge across both parties.
The move closes a tense chapter for Khalwale and marks a fresh show of force from UDA as it tightens internal control ahead of future political battles.
