Mosiria Claims ‘Untouchables’ Pushed Him Out of Environment Docket

Nairobi Chief County Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has explained the events he believes triggered his transfer from the powerful environment docket, saying influential individuals pushed for the change.

Mosiria Says the Move Didn’t Surprise Him

While speaking on Monday, December 1, Mosiria said the transfer felt expected. He argued that his strict enforcement routinely clashed with the interests of people he described as “untouchables,” eventually creating intense pressure.

According to Mosiria, his shift to the Citizen Engagement and Customer Services department stemmed from constant conflicts with powerful figures behind illegal developments.

“I stepped on toes that many consider untouchable,” he said. “Some of them got irritated, but I don’t fear man. I fear God alone.”

Recalls Confrontations Over Illegal Projects

He also reflected on several incidents in which he halted unlawful construction across Nairobi. One project, which he claimed belonged to an extremely wealthy and influential individual, triggered the strongest backlash.

“People were building on riverbanks, and many of them had big clubs intimidating residents,” he said. “Before my transfer, I stopped a major club that no one had dared to touch.”

Ties His Actions to Public Outcry

Additionally, Mosiria stressed that he acted on repeated public concerns rather than political motivations. Despite the shift, he maintained that his focus remains on serving Nairobi residents.

“I continue to work for the people,” he said. “When I joined the environment docket, many dismissed it as a small office. Soon, they saw its weight and importance. I value an office by the service it allows us to deliver.”

Follows Sakaja’s Recent Reshuffle

His remarks came two weeks after Governor Johnson Sakaja reorganised the county leadership. In the November 18, 2025 notice, the governor appointed Hibram Otieno—previously in charge of medical facilities—to replace Mosiria in the environmental docket.

Before the reshuffle, Mosiria frequently conducted enforcement drives that led to the closure of numerous businesses and residential buildings.
