Oketch Salah Responds to Ruth Odinga Over ODM Role and Raila Relationship
Oketch Salah has strongly responded to Ruth Odinga over claims about his relationship with the late Raila Odinga. He clarified his position regarding his role in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and his ties to the Odinga family.
Speaking during an interview on KTN on Wednesday night, Ruth denied knowing Salah well. She expressed surprise at claims suggesting a closer relationship between them.
According to her, she has only met him about three times. Moreover, she stated that she does not wish to engage in discussions about him.
Salah Disputes Ruth’s Claims
However, Salah quickly dismissed her remarks. He insisted that any interactions between them happened at her initiative. Furthermore, he emphasized that his relationship was with Raila, not Ruth.
He revealed that he facilitated her travel to India. Specifically, he arranged her business-class ticket and convinced Raila to approve the trip. According to Salah, he acted strictly on Raila’s instructions.
Therefore, he maintained that his involvement was professional and transparent.
Salah Speaks on Raila’s Final Moments
Ruth had claimed she was present during Raila’s last moments in India. However, Salah countered that he spent most of Baba’s final days with him.
He described the period as painful, real, and deeply significant. Additionally, he explained why he returned to Kenya earlier. He said Raila personally asked him to finalize his son’s postponed wedding.
ODM Spokesperson Claims Addressed
Ruth also accused Salah of interfering with ODM affairs. She argued that he is not a party member or spokesperson.
In response, Salah defended his actions within ODM. He stated that Raila entrusted him with specific responsibilities. Consequently, he coordinated party matters based on that trust.
Salah also defended ODM’s support for William Ruto’s reelection bid. He claimed Raila had privately expressed his intention to endorse Ruto for a second term.
Therefore, he felt duty-bound to communicate that position accurately.
Finally, Salah urged Ruth to respect party leadership decisions and avoid internal conflicts.
