The commission warns government institutions and job applicants against acting on letters claiming approval for permanent and pensionable recruitment.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has warned state departments and the public against fake appointment letters circulating on social media. The documents claim the commission approved recruitment on permanent and pensionable terms in three government departments.

In a November 3 notice, PSC rejected the letters and cautioned government institutions against acting on them. Instead, it urged the public and institutions to rely on its website and official communication channels.

Fake appointment letters claim recruitment approval

The fraudulent documents name the State Department for Forestry, the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action, and the State Department of Public Works. They claim PSC authorised the departments to recruit officers whose names appear in attached schedules.

The letters also allege that the approval followed a request from the Executive Office of the President. They cite a supposed commission decision dated July 3, 2026, and Section 33 of the Public Service Commission Act, 2017.

In addition, the documents claim the commission considered each department’s staffing establishment before approving recruitment. They direct the departments to absorb the listed officers into the established public service workforce under permanent employment arrangements.

The letters carry both the Kenyan Coat of Arms and the PSC logo. However, the commission said it did not issue them and instructed recipients to treat them as fraudulent.

PSC advertised more than 700 vacancies

Separately, PSC advertised more than 700 vacancies across government ministries and state departments in a September 22 notice. The recruitment covered senior management, legal services, human resources, social development, mining, forestry and environmental roles.

The advertised leadership posts included Secretary for Cabinet Affairs and Special Programmes and Director for Cabinet Affairs. The commission also sought a Commissioner for Co-operative Development and candidates for several senior environment, climate change and forestry positions.

Applicants were to submit their applications through the PSC website. The commission’s warning reinforces its instruction that jobseekers and government institutions should use official PSC channels for recruitment information.
