Dorita Macharia, mother of actress Regina Re, died on October 30 aged 86.
Government pathologist Dr Bernard Midia says Regina Re’s mother suffered severe blood loss after stab wounds damaged blood vessels in her neck.
The Dorita Macharia autopsy has established that the 86-year-old died from excessive bleeding after multiple neck stab wounds. Macharia, the mother of actress Regina Re, died at her Loresho Ridge Estate home on October 30.
Government pathologist Dr Bernard Midia said the fatal injuries damaged blood vessels, causing severe external bleeding. The examination at Lee Funeral Home also identified more than 20 other injuries.

Dr Midia detailed deep cuts to Macharia’s face, neck and arms, alongside a fracture in her left upper arm. He said a sharp object caused the injuries, some of which were particularly deep.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ Gigiri office attended the examination, alongside three pathologists. Lawyers representing both Macharia’s family and the suspects also attended.
Family lawyer Philip Murgor said the examination had established the cause of death. However, detectives still needed to determine the circumstances of the killing and identify those responsible.
The findings will help guide the investigation into events at the Loresho home. Meanwhile, detectives are examining allegations that some relatives cleaned parts of the house after the discovery of the body.
Four suspects remanded as inquiries continue
The examination followed a court appearance by Regina Re, her daughter Thandie Malaika, her brother Jimmy Macharia and Immanuel Munyeki. The Kibera Law Courts remanded the four for 10 days to allow detectives to complete investigations and determine whether to bring charges.
None of the four has been convicted in connection with Macharia’s death.
In a court affidavit, investigating officer David Njoroge alleged that Macharia confronted Malaika after finding her with her boyfriend in a compromising situation. Macharia then reportedly ordered Malaika and other visitors to leave, prompting a disagreement.
Court documents state that Malaika left but later returned, spending approximately an hour with her grandmother. A reported commotion inside the house preceded the discovery of Macharia’s body in a pool of blood, with multiple cuts.
Macharia’s death came shortly after the family celebrated her 86th birthday. In a social media tribute, Regina expressed gratitude for her mother’s love, care and support. She also prayed for strength and understanding for the family as they mourned.
