Kalonzo Musyoka plans engagements in Oyugis and Kendu Bay after attackers disrupted the opposition convoy in Migori.

Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka plans to take the Ukombozi Alliance campaign to Homa Bay County on Friday. The visit follows Thursday’s mobilisation tour in Migori, where violence disrupted the opposition convoy.

Musyoka is seeking to strengthen support in South Nyanza ahead of the 2027 General Election. The region has traditionally backed the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), making it an important stop in his outreach beyond his political base.

Ukombozi Alliance campaign presses on after disruption

During the Migori tour, Musyoka addressed residents in Sori and urged them to unite behind his national transformation agenda. He also invoked the legacy of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whose influence continues to shape regional politics.

That appeal targeted voters who overwhelmingly supported Odinga in previous elections. Meanwhile, Musyoka’s wider outreach comes as opposition leaders position themselves for the next presidential contest.

However, violence interrupted the Migori leg when suspected attackers reportedly threw stones at vehicles in the convoy in Migori town. Police intervened and deployed teargas.

Despite the disruption, Musyoka said his team would continue its political engagements and outreach to Kenyans.

Homa Bay stops and opposition unity

Friday’s programme includes planned engagements in Oyugis and Kendu Bay. The delegation also plans to visit independence hero Tom Mboya’s mausoleum on Rusinga Island.

The Homa Bay visit forms the second leg of Musyoka’s two-day South Nyanza tour. It offers him another opportunity to build support in a region traditionally associated with ODM.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders face questions about unity and leadership as they prepare to challenge President William Ruto in 2027. Their search for a strong presidential candidate provides the backdrop to Musyoka’s regional mobilisation.

For the former Vice-President, these engagements offer a chance to test his appeal beyond his traditional base. They also form part of his effort to strengthen his position as opposition alliances evolve.
