KCAA Takes Action Ahead of Aviation Workers’ Strike

The Kenya Aviation Workers Union strike threat has triggered emergency aviation safeguards. However, regulators insist flights will continue normally.

The authority activated operational continuity plans to protect safety and air navigation systems. Consequently, air traffic control services remain fully functional across major airports.

Director General Emile Arao confirmed that critical aviation infrastructure will stay active. Moreover, technical teams are working under established contingency protocols.

KCAA emphasized that its legal mandate requires uninterrupted aviation oversight. Therefore, passenger safety remains the top operational priority during the dispute.

Safety Protocols Remain Fully Operational

The contingency plan focuses on maintaining seamless air traffic and airport coordination. Additionally, inspection, navigation, and emergency response units remain deployed nationwide.

Officials expect minimal disruption at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and regional airports. Meanwhile, stakeholders continue coordination meetings to stabilize operations.JKIA

KCAA reassured travelers that flight schedules remain intact. Furthermore, airlines have received guidance to follow emergency continuity frameworks.

Union Demands and Strike Background

KAWU announced the strike to protest stalled collective bargaining negotiations. Specifically, the union cited delayed dues remittance and alleged worker discrimination.

Union leaders accused management of ignoring agreements dating back to 2015. As a result, tensions escalated despite multiple engagement attempts.

KAWU warned that nationwide airport operations could suffer without intervention. Nevertheless, regulators argue safeguards prevent operational paralysis.

Court Intervention and Ongoing Negotiations

The Employment and Labour Relations Court temporarily halted the strike. Importantly, interim orders block industrial action until February 26.

Following the ruling, KCAA promised uninterrupted aviation services. In addition, officials pledged continued dialogue with union representatives.

Authorities acknowledged public concern but urged calm. Ultimately, both sides are pursuing a negotiated settlement under court supervision.

Aviation Sector Stability Assured

KCAA maintains that Kenya’s aviation system remains secure and functional. Meanwhile, contingency teams continue monitoring operational risks.

Passengers should expect normal airport activity despite the labor dispute. Consequently, regulators reaffirm confidence in national aviation resilience.
