KHRC Raises Alarm Over Missing June 25 Protesters
On June 27, 2026, the Kenya Human Rights Commission updated its report to confirm that five of the six missing activists have been found alive. Specifically, the individuals were arrested by police during the June 25, 2026 protest commemorations near Parliament and were initially detained at the Central Police Station. Furthermore, one protester, activist Davis Lichuma, remains forcibly disappeared with his whereabouts entirely unknown.
How the Disappearances Unfolded
The situation developed rapidly over two days. Specifically, on June 25 and 26, civil society groups raised the alarm after six protesters went missing post-arrest without being presented in court.
Furthermore, police reportedly refused to record Occurrence Book statements for the enforced disappearances. Consequently, human rights organisations began an urgent search operation.

How and Where They Were Found
The five recovered protesters were discovered at various locations across Nairobi. Specifically, at 5:00 AM on June 27, KHRC reported that three protesters were found dumped and abandoned in the Hurlingham area.
Furthermore, two more were traced later that morning, bringing the total found to five. Additionally, recovered individuals were also located near Lang’ata Road and Ngong Forest.
One Person Still Missing
The crisis continues. Specifically, activist Davis Lichuma remains forcibly disappeared and nobody knows his location.
Furthermore, Amnesty International Kenya and KHRC are actively demanding immediate accountability and legal compliance from authorities. Additionally, police have issued zero public response to any of these claims.
