Shabana goalkeeper Ndzila saved Kayci Odhiambo’s penalty at Nyayo, while promoted 3K FC claimed their first top-flight victory.
AFC Leopards drew 0-0 with Shabana in the SportPesa Premier League after captain Kayci Odhiambo missed a second-half penalty. The AFC Leopards draw at Nyayo National Stadium left the hosts counting the cost of a missed opportunity.
Both teams finished the contest with five points from three matches, four behind leaders Gor Mahia. Meanwhile, Gor extended their advantage at the top with another victory.
Elsewhere, promoted 3K FC secured their first top-flight win, beating Murang’a Seal 2-1 at Embu Stadium. However, draws also marked the fixtures at Police Sacco Stadium and Mbaraki.
Penalty save seals AFC Leopards draw
Leopards sought a second victory of the campaign after beating Kenya Police in their previous outing. Shabana also entered the match chasing their second win.
The hosts had a clear chance to break the deadlock in the 58th minute. Herbert Sanday brought down Semo inside the area, giving Leopards a penalty.
However, Shabana goalkeeper Ndzila read Odhiambo’s spot kick correctly and saved it to preserve the goalless score. Leopards could not find a winner after that setback, while Shabana held on for a point.
3K FC celebrate first top-flight win
At Embu, 3K turned their promising start into a maiden league victory after two opening draws. They had previously shared points with Mara Sugar and Bandari.
Glen Githinji opened the scoring in the 24th minute before Oscar Juma added another ten minutes later. The two goals gave the home side a strong first-half advantage.
Murang’a Seal responded through Michael Owen in the first minute of first-half stoppage time. However, 3K protected their narrow lead through the second half to secure all three points.
Late equaliser frustrates APS Bomet
Meanwhile, APS Bomet came close to their first league victory before Nairobi United struck in the 94th minute. The late equaliser secured a 1-1 draw at Police Sacco Stadium.
Bomet’s wait for a win therefore continued after a goalless opener against Mathare United and a 1-0 loss to Gor Mahia.
At KPA Sports Club in Mbaraki, Police FC also endured a frustrating outing against newcomers Mombasa United. Their goalless draw gave the coastal side their first point of the season.
