Rescue teams recover six more bodies as the search continues for people beneath the rubble in Nairobi.

The Eastleigh building collapse death toll has risen to eight after rescue teams recovered six more bodies. Teams continue searching the rubble of the multi-storey building in Nairobi for people still trapped.

Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan confirmed the latest recoveries on Thursday, expressing sorrow for families awaiting news of missing relatives. He also offered condolences to the communities affected by the disaster.

The latest recoveries follow the retrieval of a second woman’s body two days earlier. That recovery had brought the confirmed death toll to two.

Hassan said teams recovered the first body, also that of a woman, on October 30. He subsequently urged disaster management agencies to step up efforts to reach those beneath the debris.

Meanwhile, the National Police Service confirmed that rescuers had pulled four people from the rubble alive. A multi-agency team continues the search-and-rescue operation at the site.

Police have also urged members of the public to stay away from the affected area. Keeping the site clear allows emergency responders and specialised equipment to operate safely during the search.

Hassan had earlier appealed for more resources to speed up rescue efforts as families waited anxiously. Following the latest recoveries, he expressed solidarity with those mourning their relatives while the search continues.

The operation remains focused on reaching people still believed to be beneath the debris of the collapsed building.
