Bayern Munich–Ajax fixture at Raila Odinga International Stadium

Sports CS Salim Mvurya says the January 5 match will open Raila Odinga International Stadium and test Kenya’s readiness for AFCON 2027.

Bayern-Ajax tickets will start at Sh2,500 for the clubs’ January 5, 2027 clash at Raila Odinga International Stadium. The fixture will officially open the stadium at Talanta Sports City.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya said the encounter would also test Kenya’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Kenya will co-host the tournament with Uganda and Tanzania.

Mvurya said both clubs had given written commitments to field their strongest possible first-team starting line-ups. He stressed that the fixture would not feature legends or academy teams.

Bayern-Ajax tickets and hospitality options

Ticket sales will open at 6pm East Africa Time through www.TalantaSportsCity.com. Organisers will release tickets in phases across different seating categories, with the entry price aimed at widening access.

Supporters should use authorised sales channels and pay only into verified accounts to avoid fraud. Meanwhile, fans seeking skyboxes and premium hospitality packages can access them through hospitality.talantasportscity.com.

Beyond the match, organisers plan a 12-hour fan festival, international entertainment and dedicated concierge services. The programme will also include activities celebrating sporting achievement and Kenya’s cultural identity.

Mvurya said preparations had reached an advanced stage and private-sector support had fully funded the encounter. He described that backing as a sign of corporate confidence in Kenya’s sports industry and its commercial prospects.

Fixture to test AFCON operations

The government intends to use the match to assess key services under international match conditions. These include stadium operations, security, transport, hospitality and crowd management, alongside other essential infrastructure.

To coordinate the exercise, Mvurya directed the AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee to lead planning and delivery. The committee will work with government ministries, agencies, sports stakeholders and private-sector partners.

The test should help organisers identify operational weaknesses before East Africa hosts the continental tournament. It will also give those teams a chance to assess how services function together during a major fixture.

Mvurya said the government wanted the occasion to demonstrate Kenya’s ability to stage major international sporting events. Alongside that goal, he highlighted the economic opportunities that sports tourism could create for the country.
