Dan Shikanda says organisers excluded genuine delegates and denied McDonald Mariga a chance to defend himself.

Dan Shikanda has challenged the FKF expulsions that removed him and vice president McDonald Mariga from office. He called the Special General Meeting in Meru on Saturday, November 7, 2026, illegal.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed presided over the meeting at Three Steers Hotel. Delegates, government representatives and officials from FIFA and CAF attended.

However, Shikanda alleged that organisers locked out genuine delegates and prevented Mariga from appearing before his accusers. The former Kenyan international, who represented Nairobi on the National Executive Committee, said they wanted an opportunity to defend themselves.

Mariga, meanwhile, declined to discuss his experience after arriving earlier that morning with a sizeable police escort.

FKF expulsions follow tense scenes at hotel

Police forced Mariga, Shikanda and their allies to leave the venue. Their accompanying officers also had to leave after another group arrived, led by Meru County Police Commander Moses Mutisya.

Earlier, police fired tear gas at the hotel as tensions threatened to disrupt the gathering. The ousted NEC members later tried unsuccessfully to re-enter the venue.

Shikanda said they had requested government protection for their safety and to help genuine delegates gain entry. He maintained that the escort had not come to interfere with the meeting.

He also said they wanted Mariga to attend the assembly, present his defence and leave safely. Despite the confrontation, Shikanda said nobody in their group had suffered injuries and credited their security team with protecting them.
