Delegates voted to remove seven officials over alleged constitutional violations after police intervened at the Meru meeting venue.

The FKF General Assembly has resolved to expel Vice President McDonald Mariga and six National Executive Committee members. The decision followed a Special General Meeting in Meru on Saturday, November 7, 2026.

The assembly considered allegations of serious and repeated breaches of the FKF Constitution and applicable FIFA regulations. It exercised its powers under Articles 16 and 24, covering member expulsions and the dismissal of NEC officials.

Alongside Mariga, the resolution affects Robert Kenneth Macharia of Central and Bernard Korir Lagat of Upper Rift Valley. The other officials are women’s representative Violet Kerubo Momanyi, Collins Opiyo Kalee of Nyanza, Gabriel Mghendi of Coast and Daniel Akala Shikanda of Nairobi.

FKF General Assembly considers removal bid

Among the allegations, delegates examined a purported NEC resolution dated April 24, 2026. That resolution sought to remove FKF President Hussein Mohammed and other federation officials.

The assembly also considered repeated absences from duly convened NEC meetings and unauthorised communications on the federation’s behalf. Other allegations concerned actions deemed contrary to the federation’s constitution and applicable football regulations.

Representatives of FIFA and the Confederation of African Football attended the proceedings. Acting Sports Registrar Chacha J. Maroa and State Department for Sports representatives also attended.

Following the decision, FKF reaffirmed its commitment to constitutional governance, accountability and stable football administration. The federation said it would communicate further on implementing the resolutions and the resulting administrative arrangements.

Police intervene as crowds delay meeting

Earlier, unrest at Three Steers Hotel delayed the meeting, which organisers had scheduled for 9am. Hundreds of people gathered as police moved to restore order and help accredited delegates enter.

Rapid Deployment Unit officers entered the hotel during efforts to remove people reportedly occupying parts of the premises. Meanwhile, some delegates struggled to reach the meeting amid the security operation.

A video circulating online showed Mariga arriving at the venue in a police van. As he arrived, a man in a blue suit appeared to confront him. Armed officers intervened, chased the man away and escorted Mariga inside.

Police also reportedly used teargas at the main entrance while attempting to disperse the crowd and secure access.

The unrest followed a reported physical confrontation in Meru the previous day involving an NEC member and two branch chairmen. The chairmen had reportedly visited to assess preparations when a group allegedly brought from Nairobi confronted them. Several people reportedly suffered injuries during the clash.
