A Learjet 60 business jet crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday, November 1, 2026, killing all nine people aboard.

The aircraft crashed near Military Trail in the Greenacres area at approximately 12:50 p.m. local time. The impact triggered a massive fire and left a crater near a residential community.

The jet had departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas. It was travelling to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas when the crash occurred.

Learjet Reportedly Plunged at Extreme Speed

Air traffic control recordings captured the pilot reporting icing and moderate turbulence shortly before the crash. The crew later declared an emergency as the aircraft began descending rapidly. According to reports citing the recordings, the pilot described an “overspeed condition” and warned that the jet was descending at an alarming rate.

Flight-tracking data also showed an exceptionally steep descent shortly before the aircraft disappeared from tracking systems.

Hundreds of Residents Evacuated

The crash caused extensive disruption around the impact site. Emergency crews responded to fires, debris and damage near Military Trail.

Authorities closed the road between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North while emergency teams secured the area. Officials also arranged temporary shelter for approximately 600 residents displaced by the incident.

Initial reports indicated no confirmed deaths among people on the ground. Officials had not publicly identified the nine people aboard the aircraft in the reports available at the time.

NTSB Leads Investigation

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation, with support from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft, flight data, cockpit communications and weather conditions. They will also assess what caused the jet’s rapid descent before impact.

The aircraft’s manufacturer, Bombardier, said it would cooperate with the investigation.

Authorities have not announced a definitive cause. Further findings from investigators should help establish the sequence of events that led to the fatal crash.

The tragedy has left families of the nine victims mourning while residents and emergency teams continue dealing with the aftermath.
