President William Ruto is scheduled to visit the Gusii region from November 9 to 11, 2026.
Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro says President William Ruto will launch road projects and make major announcements during a three-day Gusii visit.
President William Ruto will visit the Gusii region from November 9 to 11, 2026, for development engagements. The Ruto Kisii tour will include road launches, National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro said.
Osoro, who also represents South Mugirango, said the itinerary covers several infrastructure projects. These include the Sengenya-Openda-Karungu-Kiagware Road and the Nyakeyo-Nyamasege-Nyakorere-Moma roads.
He said organisers would release the detailed programme once they finalise it. He also urged residents to attend, saying the President would make major announcements during the visit.
Ruto Kisii tour follows April project launches
The November trip follows Ruto’s four-day visit to Kisii and Nyamira counties from April 12 to 15, 2026. During that tour, he launched and inspected projects covering infrastructure, healthcare, education, sports and trade.
Among the major initiatives, Ruto launched the upgrade and expansion of Gusii Stadium. He also handed over a Sh27 million bus to Shabana FC and allocated another Sh20 million to the club.
In water infrastructure, the President launched a Sh700 million rehabilitation and expansion of the Kisii supply network. An additional Sh350 million allocation targeted solar power for an 80-kilometre water pipeline.
Meanwhile, his road programme included launching construction of 50 kilometres of roads in Nyaribari Chache. He also announced plans for another 220 kilometres across Kisii County, alongside 280 kilometres already under construction.
Other stops included the Suneka Airstrip upgrade launch and an inspection of the Kisii Cancer Centre. The visit also covered student accommodation construction at Nyamache Kenya Medical Training College and the commissioning of modern markets.
Gusii’s voting record shapes political stakes
The return visit also carries political significance in a region that has traditionally supported opposition presidential candidates. Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga held a clear lead over Ruto in Kisii during the 2022 election.
Running on the Azimio la Umoja ticket, Odinga received approximately 65.8 per cent of the county’s presidential vote. Ruto, by comparison, secured 33.6 per cent.
Earlier elections showed a similar pattern. In 2013, Odinga won 68.83 per cent against Uhuru Kenyatta’s 27.78 per cent. However, the gap narrowed in 2017, when Odinga took 55.28 per cent against Kenyatta’s 43.16 per cent.
Alongside development engagements in April, Ruto met elected leaders, religious figures and community representatives, including at Kisii State Lodge. His November return offers another opportunity to present government programmes while courting support in the region.
