The DCP presidential candidate says aspirants must win public support and commit to backing another candidate if they are not chosen.

Democracy for the Citizens Party presidential candidate Rigathi Gachagua has defended voter mobilisation as essential to winning Kenya’s presidency. He rejected suggestions that politicians who excel at rallying supporters cannot win an election.

Speaking on KTN, Gachagua challenged remarks he attributed to someone he believed was from Jubilee. The remarks distinguished candidates who mobilise votes from those who could transform the country but struggle to rally supporters.

Gachagua links voter mobilisation to electoral success

Gachagua argued that anyone seeking the presidency must persuade Kenyans to support them at the ballot. He therefore questioned how a candidate could reach State House without building a voter base.

He also stressed that the presidency requires an electoral mandate, rather than an appointment. In his view, the ability to rally voters forms a necessary part of seeking national leadership.

A call to support the chosen candidate

Meanwhile, Gachagua urged aspirants to publicly commit to supporting another candidate if they are not chosen. He said their supporters should also understand that commitment.

He objected to situations where supporters threaten to vote for Ruto unless their preferred aspirant secures the nomination. Gachagua argued that candidates allow such positions to persist when they remain silent.

His message combined a defence of grassroots support with a demand for public assurances from fellow aspirants. Beyond seeking votes for themselves, he said, candidates must show willingness to rally behind someone else.
