DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has urged Ruto’s allies to stop courting Kalonzo Musyoka.
The DCP leader says Kalonzo remains committed to the opposition and dismisses calls for reconciliation with Uhuru Kenyatta.
Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua warns President William Ruto’s allies against courting Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at PCEA Kamangu Parish in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, on November 1, Gachagua urged government leaders seeking Kalonzo’s support to approach him first. He declared himself the Wiper leader’s family spokesman, drawing cheers from the congregation.
Gachagua said Kalonzo remained committed to working with him and other opposition leaders to change Kenya’s political leadership. He also described the Wiper leader as dependable, saying their two years together had strengthened his confidence in him.
The former Deputy President argued that Kalonzo would not join Ruto’s political camp. He then asked whether Kalonzo’s family would accept such a move, prompting a negative response from the congregation.
Gachagua warns against outreach as alliances take shape
Gachagua urged those approaching Kalonzo to stop, maintaining that the two leaders shared a commitment to the country’s liberation. His remarks come as political leaders position themselves for the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, Ruto’s camp is seeking to consolidate support as opposition figures explore possible alliances. Gachagua presented his partnership with Kalonzo as part of that wider opposition effort.
He also criticised Ruto’s administration during the church gathering, accusing it of interfering in church affairs and targeting the Mount Kenya community.
On his relationship with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, however, Gachagua dismissed calls for reconciliation. He said they already belonged to the same team and were working together.
