Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has officially opened the Linda Mwananchi Movement headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.

The launch took place on Friday, October 30, 2026, bringing together prominent opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa attended the ceremony.

The event marked a new step in Sifuna’s efforts to establish the movement’s organisational structures and expand its political presence.

Opposition Leaders Attend Launch

Gachagua, Kalonzo and Wamalwa joined Sifuna in officially opening the new offices. Other leaders at the event included Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka and Nyali MP Mohammed Ali.

Former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo and Linda Mwananchi communications head Pauline Njoroge also attended.

The leaders represented different political formations, including the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), Wiper and DAP-K.

Their presence highlighted ongoing engagement among opposition figures seeking to coordinate their political activities before the next general election.

Headquarters to Coordinate Political Activities

The Lavington offices are expected to serve as the movement’s operational base. The headquarters will help coordinate its activities as the team works to establish formal structures and expand its network of supporters across the country.

The launch follows the movement’s transition from The Equitable Party to the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

In early October, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties approved the reservation of the Linda Mwananchi Movement name for up to 90 days. The decision cleared an important step in the group’s efforts to formalise its political identity.

Opposition Unity Ahead of 2027

The launch comes as opposition leaders intensify discussions about cooperation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua, Kalonzo and Wamalwa have expressed support for greater opposition coordination. Consequently, their joint appearance at the event highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation among different political formations seeking to challenge President William Ruto.

However, their attendance does not necessarily confirm a formal coalition agreement. Instead, questions surrounding party structures, leadership and power-sharing arrangements remain central to the broader discussions.

Meanwhile, the new headquarters gives Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi Movement a central base for coordinating activities, expanding their reach and building support ahead of the next election.
