Sifuna’s movement plans to unveil its campaign headquarters in Lavington as Winnie Odinga pursues the Nairobi Senate seat.

East African Legislative Assembly MP Winnie Odinga is expected at Friday’s Linda Mwananchi launch in Nairobi’s Lavington area. The event comes as she prepares to contest the Nairobi Senate seat in the 2027 General Election.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna leads the movement, which plans to unveil its presidential campaign secretariat and national headquarters. Organisers also expect to introduce a campaign command centre and some members of the national leadership.

Winnie’s anticipated attendance brings together two political ambitions: her Senate bid and Sifuna’s pursuit of the presidency.

Winnie sets sights on Nairobi Senate

Winnie announced her intention to seek the seat during her father’s first anniversary commemoration on October 15. The event took place in Bondo, Siaya County, in honour of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In her remarks, she linked her decision to Sifuna’s search for higher political office. She said that ambition created an opportunity for her to contest the Nairobi Senate seat, which he currently holds.

Winnie also urged young Kenyans to seek elective positions, placing her own bid alongside that call. Her announcement puts her among politicians preparing for the next election as political groups begin organising their campaigns.

Linda Mwananchi launch to introduce campaign structures

Meanwhile, Sifuna is working to turn Linda Mwananchi from a mobilisation platform into an organised political outfit. The movement aims to build structures for a nationwide presidential campaign and recruit candidates for elective positions.

The Lavington headquarters will coordinate political activities, communications, mobilisation and campaign planning. Friday’s event is also expected to draw former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa.

Alongside those preparations, the movement has named Pauline Njoroge as interim communications head in its presidential campaign secretariat. Fredah Onduso, Abigael Gikonyo and Charity Waweru will serve on its digital, media and publicity team.

After the launch, the movement expects to hold a rally in Kwale County on Saturday, October 31. The planned coastal gathering forms part of its effort to expand its national reach ahead of 2027.
