Flooding in Tana River County has forced 302 households from their homes.
The Kenya Red Cross says floodwaters have affected another 3,156 households, while 175 displaced families have received emergency supplies.
Tana River floods have displaced 302 households following heavy rains along Kenya’s Coast, the Kenya Red Cross said. Floodwaters have also affected another 3,156 households in the county.
The humanitarian agency linked the flooding to overflowing Tulu and Minjila dams in Tana Delta. Water from the dams has spread into villages and homes, forcing families to leave.
In its update, the Kenya Red Cross said conditions continued to worsen as response teams assessed the situation.
Meanwhile, the county and national governments have provided emergency assistance to 175 of the displaced households. The supplies include food, tarpaulins and blankets for families forced from their homes.
The remaining displaced families are expected to receive support as assessments continue. So far, the assistance has reached more than half of the households that fled their homes.
