Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has reaffirmed his support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi political movement ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.

Wanyonyi’s political alignment comes as Sifuna’s camp strengthens its structures and prepares to mobilise supporters across the country. The lawmaker has maintained that his support for Sifuna remains unchanged.

Wanyonyi Reaffirms Support for Sifuna

Wanyonyi previously clarified his political position after claims emerged that he intended to leave Sifuna’s faction and pursue the Bungoma gubernatorial seat through the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Wanyonyi dismissed the claims and said he would continue working within Linda Mwananchi. He also urged supporters to rely on communication from him or his official secretariat when seeking information about his political activities.

The position places Wanyonyi among politicians associated with Sifuna’s political project as leaders prepare for the next election cycle.

Sifuna Endorsed for 2027 Presidency

In September 2026, Linda Mwananchi leaders endorsed Sifuna as their preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.

The decision followed a leadership retreat held on September 26. The movement said its leaders had agreed to work together around a common political agenda.

The endorsement gave Sifuna a defined role in the movement’s presidential plans. The group also said it would seek coalitions with other political parties that share its stated objectives.

Western Kenya Politics in Focus

Wanyonyi’s involvement has drawn attention because of his political roots in Western Kenya and his relationship with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, his brother.

Wetang’ula is a prominent figure in Kenya’s political establishment, while Wanyonyi has expressed support for Sifuna’s opposition movement. Their different political positions add another dimension to political alignments in the region.

However, Wanyonyi’s stated position should be distinguished from assumptions about his family’s political relationships.

Linda Mwananchi Prepares for the Next Election

Sifuna and his allies have been working to establish a broader political platform ahead of the 2027 elections. The movement has attracted several opposition figures, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and other leaders who have participated in its activities. Its leadership has also discussed coalition-building and plans to expand its reach beyond Nairobi.

As the election approaches, Wanyonyi’s continued support for Sifuna adds to the political activity surrounding Linda Mwananchi. The movement’s ability to build regional support and formalise its political structures will remain central to its preparations for 2027.
