MDG, PPD, TDU and Usawa Kwa Wote propose leadership, constitutional and identity changes, with the registrar inviting public submissions.
Four political outfits have proposed party changes covering leadership, constitutions, headquarters and branding ahead of the 2027 General Election. They are the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG), Party for Peace and Development (PPD), Democratic Union (TDU) and Usawa Kwa Wote.
Gazette notices published on October 30 outlined their intentions to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP). However, the proposals remain subject to public review.
The registrar invited anyone with objections to submit written representations within seven days of the notices’ publication.
Leadership and constitutional party changes
MDG, which belongs to the Azimio La Umoja Coalition, intends to amend its constitution and update its national officials. Its proposed list includes eight officials serving in national positions.
Among them are Monica Apio Mungála as National Chairperson and Hillary Adolwa as Deputy National Chairperson. The party also listed Julius Ouma Jwan as Secretary General.
Meanwhile, PPD plans constitutional amendments alongside changes involving six officials. It proposed Phylis Kambita to replace Florence Wangui as National Women’s League Chairperson.
For Deputy National Chairperson in charge of Operations, PPD proposed Judith Kwamboka to replace Faith Mbogo. It also named Trizza Kithitho to replace Dahabbo Darro as Deputy National Chairperson in charge of Strategy.
Other proposals include Brian Ooga as Secretary for Devolution and County Governments. In addition, PPD proposed Omari Samwel as National Chairperson in Charge of Diaspora.
New headquarters, symbols and colours
PPD also intends to move its headquarters from Muthaiga Flat along Thika Road. Its proposed address is House No. 54, Roasters, Mukima Drive, off Thika Road, Nairobi.
Alongside that move, the party seeks to replace its triangle symbol with a jug. Its proposed colours are orange, sky blue and white, replacing red, white, green and black.
Meanwhile, TDU plans to move from Victoria Plaza on Parklands Road to Gigigiri Whispers Avenue in Nairobi. It also proposes replacing its house symbol with a unity kite.
The party wants to change its slogan from “Mwanzo Mpya” to “Our People, Our Purpose, Our Power”. Its proposed colour scheme combines red, dark brown and green, replacing red, blue and white.
Usawa Kwa Wote, meanwhile, proposes moving its national headquarters from Muthaiga to Muiri Lane in Karen, Nairobi. The proposed location sits opposite the main entrance to Bomas of Kenya.
