SPYDER System Features and Capabilities
The SPYDER system is an all-weather, quick-reaction missile platform. It detects threats while moving and engages multiple targets up to 100 kilometres away.
Counter-Drone Technology Strengthens Security
One key feature is advanced counter-drone technology. Consequently, the system can detect, track, and destroy UAVs within seconds.
Radar and Missile Integration
The system incorporates radar from Israel Aerospace Industries’ Elta division. Furthermore, it uses Python-5 and Derby missiles for infrared and radar homing capabilities.
Kenya Modernizes Defense Amid Regional Threats
Security analysts say the acquisition reflects Kenya’s effort to modernize defence. Therefore, it strengthens preparedness against evolving threats, including Al-Shabaab.
Strengthened Kenya-Israel Cooperation
The deal reinforces military cooperation between Kenya and Israel. Moreover, it enhances intelligence sharing, counter- terrorism, and defence technology collaboration.
SPYDER in Global Service
SPYDER is already deployed in India, Singapore, Morocco, and the Czech Republic. Kenya now joins Ethiopia and Morocco as African users of the system.
National Security Boost for Kenya
