The Ministry of Health says seven patients remain in isolation care, with all nine confirmed cases linked to one cluster of known contacts.

Kenya has recorded its second Ebola death, with the Ministry of Health confirming that a 65-year-old woman died. The latest fatality brings the death toll to two among nine confirmed cases of Bundibugyo Virus Disease.

The woman was Kenya’s third confirmed case and a close relative of the country’s first Ebola patient. She also had direct contact with that patient, who died from the disease.

Second Ebola death follows treatment in isolation

The ministry said the woman developed symptoms on October 13, 2026, while under quarantine. She entered an infectious disease unit that same day, where medical teams provided supportive care.

However, she died early Friday evening, the ministry said. Her family has received notification of her death.

The ministry is also working with relatives to arrange a safe and dignified burial. Those arrangements will follow public health protocols.

Seven patients remain under treatment

Meanwhile, seven patients continue to receive treatment at two isolation facilities. The ministry said all nine confirmed infections belong to a single cluster of known contacts.

It also said there is currently no evidence of community transmission.

Health officials outline precautions

Health authorities have urged Kenyans to avoid contact with sick people’s blood or other bodily fluids. They also advised against touching or handling the bodies of people who died from suspected illnesses.

In addition, officials urged the public to wash their hands regularly and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms develop. Warning signs include fever, weakness, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and unexplained bleeding.
