Police reported two separate cannabis seizures in Kitui County, including rolls allegedly concealed in a rice parcel.
DCI says officers found the rolls in food intended for a remandee, while a separate roadblock search in Kitui County uncovered 13 bales of cannabis.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly trying to take 69 rolls of bhang into Kitui Police Station.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the suspect as Dickens Tito.
According to the DCI, officers became suspicious while inspecting a parcel of rice intended for a remandee.
They reportedly found the 69 rolls hidden beneath the rice, alongside 33 matchsticks.
The arrest formed part of two separate cannabis interceptions reported by the DCI in Kitui County.
Bhang Found Inside Rice Parcel
Tito allegedly arrived at the police station carrying food for a person in remand.
However, officers checked the parcel before allowing it through the facility’s gates.
The inspection exposed the suspected attempt to conceal cannabis inside the rice.
Officers reportedly moved the rice aside and recovered the 69 rolls and matchsticks.
Consequently, they arrested Tito and retained the recovered items as exhibits.
Police Seize 13 Cannabis Bales
Meanwhile, officers reported a separate cannabis seizure at Kanyonyoo along the Thika–Garissa Highway.
A multi-agency security team stopped a public service vehicle travelling from Kitui to Embu.
During a routine luggage inspection, officers searched the vehicle’s rear boot.
They reportedly found a pink briefcase belonging to 29-year-old Justice Kabila Njanja.
Inside, officers allegedly recovered 13 bales of cannabis sativa wrapped in yellow sealing tape.
Police arrested Njanja following the discovery and took him into custody.
Two Suspects Face Further Investigation
The two incidents occurred separately, although both happened within Kitui County.
The DCI said investigators are holding both suspects pending further inquiries and expected court appearances.
Authorities will also use the recovered cannabis as exhibits in the investigations.
The agency said the operations form part of efforts to disrupt narcotics trafficking in the county.
However, the allegations against Tito and Njanja remain subject to investigations and the court process.
