Detectives are examining a recovered motorcycle for its alleged role in the killing of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu.
Detectives say a boda boda rider identified the recovered motorcycle as the one he allegedly used to transport the suspected gunman during the September 9 attack.
Detectives investigating the murder of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu have recovered a motorcycle they believe was used to transport the suspected gunman to and from the scene of the fatal shooting in Nairobi.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the recovery followed the arrest of Nicholas Lemiso Naula, a boda boda rider suspected of ferrying the alleged attacker on September 9, 2025, when Mbobu was killed.
The motorcycle has been taken to the Homicide Offices for further examination as investigators work to establish its movements and its alleged connection to the attack.
Motorcycle traced through successive owners
The DCI said Naula told detectives during interrogation that he had been riding the motorcycle when he allegedly transported the suspected gunman. That account gave investigators a lead in their search for the vehicle.
Detectives then followed a succession of owners before locating and recovering the motorcycle. The DCI said Naula subsequently identified it as the motorcycle he had allegedly used during the attack.
The recovery forms part of the evidence investigators are assembling to reconstruct the circumstances of Mbobu’s killing. The rider’s account and identification remain allegations within the ongoing investigation, rather than findings of guilt.
Three suspects arrested in investigation
The DCI said the latest recovery follows the arrest of three suspects: the suspected gunman and two boda boda riders. Investigators are examining the alleged transport arrangements surrounding the shooting as they seek to establish the role of each suspect.
Detectives have also recovered motorcycles allegedly used to ferry the suspected gunman and to follow Mbobu before he was shot. Those recoveries form part of the wider effort to piece together the movements linked to the killing.
The investigation therefore extends beyond identifying the person suspected of firing the shots. Detectives are also looking into those alleged to have transported the gunman or participated in tracking the lawyer before the attack.
Detectives seek further evidence
Mbobu was shot dead in Nairobi on September 9, 2025. Homicide detectives have since been working to reconstruct the chain of events surrounding his death and identify everyone allegedly involved.
The DCI said officers are continuing to pursue additional suspects and evidence. Examination of the newly recovered motorcycle is part of that work, with investigators seeking to determine its movements and alleged role in the murder.
While the recovery provides another item for detectives to examine, the full circumstances of the killing remain under investigation. The allegations against those arrested are subject to the continuing inquiry and the judicial process.
